Dr. Peter Becker

Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB)

studied physics at the University of Münster and received his doctorate in 1974 from the Institut für Physik der Universität Dortmund (Dortmund University Institute of Physics). From there he moved to Physikalisch-Technischen Bundesanstalt (National Metrology Institute) in Braunschweig (Brunswick). Initially he was involved with metrological applications in X-ray optics before taking over the leadership of the international Avogadro project in 1995. In 2003, he was awarded the leadership as director and professor of the specialist Working Group “Quantum Optics and Unit of Length” of the National Metrology Institute. Although retired since March 2011, he is still involved with the project.
